Costa Rica as small as this country is in total area holds 3% of our entire planets Biodiversity! Corcavado National Park, located on the very southern Pacific Coast (not far from Panama) owns half of that 3%!
And today we got to explore this amazing place!
Corcovado National Park is the backpacking experience of a lifetime. It encompasses the only remaining old growth wet forests on the Pacific coast of Central America, and 13 major ecosystems including lowland rain forest, highland cloud forest, jolillo palm forest, and mangrove swamps, as well as coastal marine and beach habitats.
The diversity found here on the Osa peninsula is not surpassed by any region of similar size anywhere on earth.

*We woke up early as we had to depart by boat at 615am. Ugh! It was an hour long ride to Corcavado National Park. When we finally arrived we signed in with the park rangers, then our guide Manuel took us on the 3 hour expedition. We came across numerous wildlife including the green squirrel monkeys (like you see in St Kitts), Howler monkeys, Spider monkeys, warthogs, Sloths, Costa Rican turkeys, a very active Ant Eater, a huge Tapir (400+ lbs), many different bird species, a few bats, snakes, dangerous army ants, and spiders. We also got a nice education on the whole ecosystem of that park.
After the hour long boat ride back to Copa De Arbol, we cleaned up, had lunch, hung out at the pool/hot tub for a few hours (I had another spicy jalapeño margarita), went back to our jungle treehouse for a while, had a late dinner, and then off to bed at about 10 PM.
Tomorrow we have mostly a free day until the evening where we do a sunset cruise on the Pacific Ocean right off the coast! Hopefully there won't be many clouds!
That's it for today's entry! Until tomorrow! Pura Vida!! 🦥🌴
