First Full day in Alajuela Costa Rica.

First full day in Alajuela! Sunny, then cloudy, then Monsoon, then nice again! Weird!

To start things off we had a nice breakfast here at Xandari on our first full day.  The weather started out nice - mid 70's/partly sunny in the morning.  After breakfast we headed to the sunset pool while walking the beautiful tropical paths of our resort. While at the pool Tara sunbathed and I hung out in the hot tub. Soon the weather started to turn! Partly sunny quickly became mostly cloudy, then a drizzle.  After an hour or so there we headed back to our room for a bit, then off to the Xandari restaurant for a light lunch.... That's when the nasty Monsoon hit! It rained and poured for several hours! Not much we could do but to wait it out/maybe build an Ark?  Finally later that evening after the rain subsided we Ubered into Alajuela for dinner & drinks at Santo Pecado aka Holy Sin! Had a nice time there before heading back for our final night at Xandari!

Tomorrow the real start to our 30th anniversary adventure begins as we head out at 9am for LaFortuna and the Arenal Volcano! 🌋

That's it for today's entry! Stay tuned for blog #3 tomorrow night!

Finally made it to Costa Rica! We're Here!

THE DREADED TRAVEL DAY...🦥

With only a few hours sleep last night we sluggishly got up at 2:30 AM and were out the door at about 3:25 AM this morning!

Ugh! Torture! Where's the Coffee?🦜

Got to Detroit Metro Airport quickly for our 6:20AM departure and surprisingly the 2 Spirit flights we were on were seamless and not that bad. *Oh and NO USELESS MASKS!

We ended up getting in to San José Costa Rica at about 12:20 PM (2:20pm our time).  Costa Rica is in the central time zone but they do not observe daylight savings thus the 2 hour time difference.🦎

Unfortunately when we got to the San José airport we had to go through immigration and customs which took alot of time!  Tons of people visiting Costa Rica!  Another downer was when we finally found our driver it started raining pretty hard.  But we are in a Rainforest! 🦥 🌴

After about a 20 minute ride we finally arrived at at the Xandari Resort and Spa in Alajuela just outside of San José.  Had a welcome punch, checked in, had a very late lunch, came back to our room, dozed off for a little bit, then went back to the same onsite restaurant and  had a very late light dinner with wine. Now we're back at our room for the night! Being "Bushed" is an understatement! 🐸

The grounds here at Xandari are beautiful!  The tropical foliage is fantastic and the nighttime sounds are amazing (not quite Africa amazing though)!  We have a completely free day tomorrow here so after breakfast we will explore the grounds in greater detail, visit their waterfalls, hang out at the pool, go in the hot tub and and in the evening take an Uber into Alajuela to see what's going on there!🐒

*Fyi, San José is the capital of Costa Rica and the largest city in the country with 1.4 million people.  It also sits at an elevation of 3800'. Alajuela sits just outside of San José 🐒

Signing off for the night...  Next blog entry sometime tomorrow evening!🐬

Good Night
